Dixon dominates Rio Linda

DIXON, CA (MPG) – In the first game of Golden Empire League (GEL) play for both teams, Dixon dominated Rio Linda on Friday night, September 30.

The Rams (5-1, 1-0 GEL) won 47-6 for the second consecutive week. The Knights (2-4, 0-1 GEL) have now lost three games in a row and been outscored 135-12 combined.

Dixon senior quarterback Jett Harris had an efficient night against the Knights, completing 15-of-23 passes for 353 yards and four touchdowns. One of the passes went for an 80-yard touchdown to junior wide receiver Jordan Sengmany who maximized the opportunity in his only reception of the game.

Harris also added four carries for 15 yards on the ground. Senior running back Braden Baumbach had a team-high eight rushing attempts for 40 yards and a score, averaging five yards a clip. His younger brother, Ryan, topped him in rushing average with 8.3 yards a carry on three attempts (25 yards total).

Senior wide receiver Luis Torres, who is also the team’s kicker, led the way receiving for Dixon with four catches for 125 yards and two TDs. He was followed by fellow senior WR Brent Green who tallied a game-high six receptions for 98 yards.

Matthew Whitaker made the most of his opportunities Friday night. The senior wide receiver scored from three yards out on the ground in his only rushing attempt. Lightning struck twice as Whitaker reached the end zone on a three-yard reception, his only catch of the game.

The statistics for Rio Linda and the Dixon defense were unavailable as of press time.

After spending nearly the entire month of September at home, the Rams will now hit the road for three of their final four regular season games. Dixon will have one less day of rest this week as the Rams play at Woodland on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Rams will return home the following Thursday, October 13, for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m.

Things don’t get much easier for Rio Linda this Friday, as the Knights play at No. 15 Casa Roble (5-1, 1-0 GEL) at 7 p.m. in their final road game of the season.
